Your gateway to the exciting politics and vibrant culture of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Introducing LAB

Latin America Bureau (LAB) is a London-based independent research and ?publishing organisation. We work to broaden public understanding of issues of? human rights, development, culture and social and economic justice in ?Latin America and the Caribbean. LAB has been publishing original books and running education programmes, workshops and events for? more than 30 years.

Between 2006 and 2008, LAB suffered economic difficulties and was forced to run at a reduced level of activity. We moved out of our premises at 1 Amwell St in the Angel in London and went through a process of restructuring that resulted in new funding from OXFAM, a publishing contract with Zed Books and the re-development of our website.

We are now operating through the internet with staff based in Latin America as well as the UK. While we will be continuing with our original mandate to publish books with a progressive point of view, LAB's website will now also play a fundamental role in our activities. With the support of a dedicated group of volunteers, we aim to be a high quality source of news and comment on the new developments in Latin America in the areas of politics, society, the environment, indigenous affairs, culture, music and the arts. The website will also publish in-house reports from time to time. As ever, we will continue to recommend upcoming Latin American events and we hope you find our directory of organisations and groups useful in your research.
